Forget CV31, here's some guys I'd love to see on Twitter
Bucks forward Charlie Villanueva created waves across the sports media world Tuesday, when he posted a "tweet" to his Twitter account during halftime of the Bucks game. Coach Scott Skiles
promptly banned locker-room twittering (though he made no ruling on towel-snapping) and Villanueva has obliged,
sort of.
Besides prompting a headline writing contest -- ESPN has already graced us with "Tweet child 'o mine" and "Tweet surrender" -- this incident got me thinking, "What other sports figures would I like to "follow" on the microblogging mega-site?"
Here's six (plus the point-after):
1. Terrell Owens (@northamericasteam)
The Mouth of the South, er, North, would be the ultimate follow. T.O. is a walking, talking quote machine just looking for a tape-recorder or camera to spout-off to. The only problem here is that there's no way Owens could keep his rants under 140 characters.
2. Dick Vitale (@diaperdandy)
Maybe I'm stricken with March Madness, but I'd be curious to see how many times Dickie V could squeeze "baby" into one of his manic microblogs.
3. Ozzie Guillen (@f***mariotti)
Of all of the angry, outspoken managers in Major League Baseball, Ozzie is by-far my favorite. I'd follow the ChiSox skipper in a hot minute, as he crafts combinations of cursewords the likes of which the web has never seen.
4.Yogi Berra (@forkintheroad)
Master of the Yogiism, there's no sports figure more tailor-made for Twitter than the Yankee legend. Nothing would brighten my day more than to get a regular glimpse at what's going on inside the Zennest Master's head.
5. John Madden (@boom)
While I'm sure his tweets would be golden morsels of football knowledge, I'd get more enjoyment watching Madden explain how Twitter works: "See what you do right here is... on the computer... and BOOM!... it's a tweet."
6.Sean Avery (@sloppyseconds)
It's no secret that Mr. Avery likes to speak his mind. The NHL's journeyman bad boy could have a wonderful time airing his (far too) personal business via Twitter... just don't expect any retweets from Dion Phaneuf or Jarret Stoll.
Extra-Point: Any Bullpen Catcher (@bullpen)
Hey guy, you've got the coolest job in all of sports, please give us all a glimpse of your fabulous life. And for you, I think we could even suspend the "no mid-game twittering" rule.
How do you feel about Villanueva twittering during games? Is this going to be the next big thing in the sports world? What sports figures would you like to see on Twitter?
