KC hopes their White Cassel is just as good
The Chiefs went into this off-season with more holes to fill then the Titanic. They finished last in the putrid AFC West behind the train wreck that is Raider football. However, with one fell swoop, the Chiefs became what some may call the team to beat in the West.
The move started right after the end of the season with the resignation of Carl Peterson. They then hired Scott Pioli as the new GM and he instantly went to work, hiring former Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley to bring a more aggressive offensive attack to the Chiefs. Then the moves started -- the trade had been reported as Mike Vrabel for a undisclosed draft pick, but we quickly learned that was not the case. Matt (White) Cassel, who lead the Pats to a 11-5 record in place of the "golden boy," was added as icing on the cake.
When you look at what KC gave up, the trade could fall into the "most one-sided trade in NFL history" category. For the 34th overall pick KC got a franchise QB and a LB who can provide some leadership to a defense that is lacking just that. Oh, and did I mention that they got to hold on to the #3 overall pick?
Compare that with the rest of the AFC West: The 8-8 division-winning Chargers, who are in the midst of a contract battle with LT; the Broncos who now apparently have lost all interest in their QB, and the Raiders. Yeah, the Raiders. The Chiefs now have the opportunity to make a big splash in their first season in the A.C. area, that's "After Carl."
So are the Chiefs the favorites in the AFC West? Will Cassel have as big a impact in KC as he did in New England? Lets talk about it!FANTASY FIX: Anthony May breaks down Cassel's potential impact as a fantasy QB. |
