There's going to be a lonely telestrator in the NBC broadcast booth this fall: Legendary NFL commentator John Madden announced his retirement from broadcasting on Thursday.

Madden's storied career, both as a coach and broadcaster, is being recounted all across the mainstream media, so we won't rehash all of that here. Looking past his often-mocked passion for Brett Favre and his proclivity for onomatopoetic catch phrases, Madden has hit the microphone with some real gems over the years.

Before I ramble on any further, here's six great Maddenisms:

1. "The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer."

2. "The only yardstick for success our society has is being a champion. No one remembers anything else."

3. "The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break."

4. "Don`t worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon."

5. "Coaches have to watch for what they don`t want to see and listen to what they don`t want to hear."

6. "When your arm gets hit, the ball is not going to go where you want it to."

Extra-point:
"Hey, the offensive linemen are the biggest guys on the field, they're bigger than everybody else, and that's what makes them the biggest guys on the field."

What's you favorite Madden quote or moment? Are you going to miss him in the broadcast booth? Post Game below.
