Brad Pitt to star as Billy Beane in upcoming biopic
Oscar-nominated actor and Hollywood megastar Brad Pitt has played a lot of roles in his day; You can soon add major league general manager to that list. Pitt is slated to star as player-turned-GM Billy Beane in the biopic,"Moneyball."
Directed by Steven Soderbergh ("Ocean's Eleven," "The Good German"), "Moneyball" will follow Beane as he builds the Oakland A's on a slim budget. Beane started as the A's GM in 1998 and became a part owner of the team in 2005.
Comedian Demitri Martin (of the Comedy Central sketch show 'Important Things') will star opposite of Pitt as Paul De Podesta, a Harvard graduate who uses his statistical skills to help Beane scout cost-effective players.
Filming is slated to begin in June with the film's planned release date in 2011. Variety has

We love a good sports flick here at The Checkdown -- anytime our staff gets together, it's a near-certainty that, at some point, someone will bust out a quote from "Major League" (from Bob Uecker, mostly) -- but I can't say I have high hopes for this movie.
