Manny's All-Star aligning
Fans voting for Ramirez despite suspension
By Danny Nicklin|Posted 05.31.09

Every four years, America is charged with selecting the leader of the free world. Once a year, baseball fans are asked to select the starting lineup of MLB's Mid-Summer Classic. And more often than not, the ability for people to pick who patrols left field is questioned more than people's ability to pick who patrols the White House.

And this year's no different. As of Friday night, Manny Ramirez ranks as the fourth outfielder in the latest voting totals....

'Madden 10' hype keeps building
Top player rankings prompting pointless debate
By Anthony May|Posted 05.27.09

Remember Tecmo Bowl? You could simply mash some buttons and watch Roger Craig dismantle defenses.

Tecmo has since fell to the wayside as the Madden franchise rose to the top of the sports-gaming heap.

But the announcement of Madden 10's top player rankings has even a Madden-junkie like me thinking that the hype has gotten out of hand...

By Anthony May|Posted 05.12.09

I'm sure there was at least a handful of confused onlookers in the Philadelphia crowd today during the unveiling of their new MLS team's name and logo: The new Philadelphia "Union" logo features stars, a crest and... a coiled snake?

Faster than you can type 'Manny'

By Anthony May|Posted 05.07.09

I didn't even need to pause from my work to get the scoop; Thanks to my handy desktop Twitter client, I saw the tweets streaming in -- it started with this gem from @docksquad33, "Omg la times reporting manny wil b suspended fifty games!" That was it.

Stern's 'Darwinism'
NBA culture, players clutch commish by manhood
By Steve Turney|Posted 05.07.09

Steve Turney hates prima donnas with a passion.

And he's placing the blame on NBA commissioner David Stern, the man who has allowed the NBA to spiral out of control into a glorified chest-beating spectacle with an abundance of expletive-laced trash-talking with little to no consequences for unsportsmanlike acts....

Offseason Favre-ite
Favre coverage should be delivered, expected
By Danny Nicklin|Posted 05.05.09

Well, at least it's official. Brett Favre is going to meet with Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress later this week to discuss coming out of retirement for the second consecutive year, for the second consecutive team.

The usual suspects in the sports media world have been speculating on such a move, smelling blood in water after Favre was unconditionally released by the New York Jets over a week ago....

Too good to be blue
Greinke's promise nothing new for Royals
By Anthony May|Posted 05.05.09

So, Zack Greinke is good.

His 6-0 record, 0.50 ERA and 44 Ks have the baseball world buzzing. But there's something about this scenario that says it isn't built to last.

The Royals have a nasty history of dealing great players in horrible trades. Is Greinke next?...

A-Rod damage controlled
New book can do little to truly hurt Rodriguez
By Danny Nicklin|Posted 05.04.09

"A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez"

"Many lives." That's where Selena Roberts, Sports Illustrated reporter and author, lost me. Outside of baseball, I don't particularly care what Alex Rodriguez's relationship with Madonna was/is all about. I don't care how extravagant his requests are (toothpaste on his toothbrush)...

Hitting the retweeting trail
College coaches turning to Twitter to lure recruits
By Anthony May|Posted 05.01.09

Everybody's doing it.

While this logic never seemed to work with your mother, it's been the go-to mantra of college coaches on the recruiting trail. Despite their age (in most cases) and their relative lack of tech savvy, these coaches have promptly hopped on the Twitter bandwagon, leveraging the micro-blogging platform to engage recruits....
