Pre-season mags pushing college football early
Ahhh summer: The NBA finals are set to get underway with the Magic taking on the Lakers; Major League Baseball finally gets into full swing as we get closer to the mid-summer classic; and college football really starts to garner attention.
One of these statements should make you go, "uhhh, what?" And no, it's not the Magic in the Finals.
With the release of
Street and Smith's pre-season college football magazine we have officially seen the dawning of a new day; The summer college football season. Following this first release, we have now seen the release of several other 'zines, three more to be exact. Since when did college football become a year-round sport?
Phil Steele, author of
Phil Steele's college football preview magazine, breaks down all 119 teams. 119 teams? Tim Tebow calls that a slow Tuesday. Along with bowl game projections, first team All-Americans and Heisman trophy winners, one has to ask, "is all of this good for the game?"
Is demanding information year-round and wanting the latest and greatest information and predictions about our teams for the betterment of the players, who, by the way, are still students?
I think Chris Fowler, ESPN College Football analyst, put it best when he said, "If they put it in front of us we will talk about it."
Never mind the fact that the season doesn't start for another 3 months, and half the kids who the magazines are predicting haven't even seen the field yet.
