EA adds the other "E.A." to college football game
So we are officially six days away from the release of NCAA Football 2010 from EA Sports. But for those wanting to get a taste of what is to come, EA has released the demo version on both the XBox Live network and the PS3 Network. After downloading onto my XBox, I must say one thing: ERIN ANDREWS IS IN THE GAME! Now, normally that would be enough of a review but I feel I must continue.
The game has a different feel to it then the previous years, that could be because NCAA finally jumped on the same engine that Madden has been on for years. But the feel for the game is more realistic, and with the new emphasis on fair play that can only help the game.
The demo pits last year's championship game participants: Florida taking on Oklahoma at the Orange Bowl. The first thing you notice is the new coaching mode: aggressive, normal, conservative. You chose your style at the beginning of each game, but can change it as needed. For example if you are up 10 points and want to just begin to protect the ball you can change from aggressive to conservative and the players will protect the ball instead of pick up those extra yards. Pretty neat feature if you ask me.
Now the playbook was the next thing I noticed, -- talk about team specific. The Gator Heavy, which Florida has made famous is LOADED. (Note to Lane Kiffin: less talky, more playing NCAA Football 2010 to get Florida's playbook-y). The gators, as in real life, don't have a single under center formation (minus the standard goal line). The next best thing about it was the ability to set up plays. Meaning, certain running plays are tied to play action plays. So you run the ball enough you are going to open up a PA pass play for some deep yards. Very cool as well.
But my favorite part of the game, Miss Erin Andrews reporting from the sideline. Finally my world makes sense now! Those in game injuries as well as adjustments and momentum swinging plays are brought to you by the original EA. As she patrols the sidelines looking for action! Football action of course.
There are some things that I need to see in the game still. Like a better CPU AI. Plus the ability for the CPU to make adjustments as the game goes along. But I can review that for ya after the game comes out.
Overall, I have to give the demo 4 stars out of 5! It looks nice, the audio is crisp and I caught lots of new commentary, and anytime I can do the gator chomp and earn a personal foul during the game, well that's just all the incentive I need.
Oh yeah. Did I mention that Erin Andrews is in the game?
What say you Checkdown nation? Have you played the demo? Are you looking forward to the release of 2010? Anyone want to join me for the midnight release and have some fun? Let's go to the Post Game.
