Six reasons Oklahoma was bound to lose
Ah, do you smell that? The smell of college football is finally in the air. BYU thought they would start in good fashion by taking Oklahoma off the charts. This 'Pick 6' details reasons why Oklahoma was bound to lose in Week One.
1. Too much pressure for Bradford
Sam Bradford was returning from a huge season last year, not to mention the Heisman winner was focused on one thing, becoming a better leader on the field. The media wouldn't allow him to do this. They wanted to know if he could repeat as the Heisman hopeful. The media will leave him alone now and rebound when he returns in Week 5.
2. BYU is overlooked every year, even in Top 20
This is for every newspaper or media outlet that continues to overlook Boise State and BYU. Year after year they fight and have great seasons but are passed over because of their lack of schedule. Well, maybe BYU opened your eyes this year. BYU is here to stay. They knocked off Oklahoma, which means quarterback Max Hall is one element closer to being a Heisman hopeful.
3. Defense, Defense, Defense
Who the heck would have thought that BYU's defense was as strong as it was? They made Sam Bradford look like a high school quarterback playing against a team of Brian Urlachers. Not only did they pressure him all night, eventually send him into the locker room not to return.
4. Oklahoma's reset offense is just terrible
In short yardage plays, Oklahoma's reset offense (where they all look up and receive the play call from the sideline) never works. This offense only works in 6+ yardage situations. If they do this all season, they will be very unsuccessful on 3rd and short.
5. A thinner O-line?
This plays on the last point. The O-line wants to set up and once they are down they want to stay there. If you are going to make them pop up and down, you better get them in better shape. By the end of the game, they looked exhausted. Terribly exhausted. Either thin them out or leave them down for a quick snap.
6. Make Adjustments
Realizing you have the Heisman winner is great, but if it isn't working don't trust that eventually it will. BYU was in OU's face all night because they expected the Sooners to throw the ball. Guess what, if you continue to throw you will continue to get pressure, thus the reason Bradford is now on the bench for at least 2 weeks.
How shocking was Oklahoma's loss? Can they rebound and win without Bradford? Does this win make BYU instantly BCS-worthy? Expect any other major upsets in the coming weeks? Post Game below.
